For those of you who don’t know, my cousin’s dog, Buzo, died a couple of days back. This is for him.

You went away too soon. Without a whine, without a bark. It’s not fair on us, and it’s not fair on you. I don’t know why the man up there called you, but probably, he needed the happiness you gave out, so unselfishly. And maybe you’ve gone away in body, but you’ll always be with us, deep down. No one will forget the way you wagged your tail when you saw a chicken bone or the way you yawned with a huge mouth. You loved the entire family and were loved by the entire family.

You came to us a few years back, when you were hardly a puppy. You were a chocolate brown ball of fur, with eyes that could melt anyone’s heart. It took you some time, but by the time you outgrew your teething phase, no one in the house had any clothes without holes. The house where humans lived, became “Buzo’s house”… And everyone loved it that way. The first thing anyone would do when they entered YOUR house, was go and cuddle you. Sara (my cousin) used to wait all year to see you, not us.

Comings and goings are parts of life. Some might be harder to accept, but as time goes on, the wounds will heal. We will learn to be happy for you. You are in a better place now.

You were not our whole life Buzo, but you made our lives whole. We miss you. Wherever you are, stay happy.

It broke our heart when you went,
They say it’s ok, you’re in a better place,
And we really hope that’s true,
As we wipe the tears off our face.

You were always the best pet, Buzo,
There for us every time,
And we know, if you could see us right now,
You’d want us to smile.

And So, maybe we’ll still feel sad,
When we walk around the places you stood,
And maybe we’ll still step back,
When we drop a morsel of food.

Maybe we’ll get another furry canine,
But you will never be replaced,
We love you, Buzo, from the core of our hearts,
And not even the entire galaxy,
Can ever take your place.
